What is Blog Pagination?
Blog pagination allows users to navigate through a list of posts displayed on the homepage, search results, label searches, or blog archives. It enhances user experience by breaking long lists of posts into multiple pages.
Types of Blog Pagination in Blogger
Blogger provides four types of pagination options. By default, it is set to Auto.
- Default: Standard “Older Posts” and “Newer Posts” links at the bottom.
- Infinite: Loads more posts automatically as the user scrolls down.
- Numbered: Displays page numbers (1, 2, 3…) for easier navigation. Available only for All Posts and Label Search pages.
- Auto: Blogger automatically selects the best pagination type based on your theme. If numbered pagination fails, it falls back to Infinite.
Behaviors of Blog Pagination Types
- Default: Displays three buttons – Newest, Homepage, and Oldest.
- Infinite: Shows a single Load more button that appends the next set of posts to the current list.
- Numbered: Shows numbered buttons for jumping directly to specific pages.
- Auto: Functions like Default/Numbered and falls back to Infinite if needed.
Switch Between Blog Pagination Types
To change the pagination style, adjust the Blog Pagination Type value in your template:
- 1px → Default
- 2px → Infinite
- 3px → Numbered
- 4px → Auto
Note: For the AMP variant of pages, the Default pagination type is always used.
Infinite Pagination Behaviors
- Click: User clicks Load more to load additional posts.
- Scroll: Automatically loads more posts when the user reaches the end of the list.
- Click then Scroll: First click to load posts, then automatically loads posts on scroll.
To switch Infinite Pagination behaviors, set the Infinite Pagination Type value:
- 1px → Click
- 2px → Scroll
- 3px → Click then Scroll
Post Pagination
Post Pagination displays the Previous and Next article links at the end of posts. By default, it is enabled.
To enable or disable Post Pagination, set the Post Pagination value:
- 1px → Disabled
- 2px → Enabled
Steps to Configure Pagination Settings in Blogger
- Go to your Blogger Dashboard and open your blog.
- Click on Theme and then select Customize.
- Inside the Theme Designer, click on the Advanced tab.
- From the dropdown selection list, choose Plugin: Pagination.
- Adjust the settings as needed (style, number of posts per page, etc.).
- Click on Apply to Blog to save changes.
